Tips for Making Wax Melts in Silicone Molds

    Melt Wax With a Double Boiler

    Direct heat scorches wax and ruins the scent throw. Use a double boiler or an electric wax melter to heat wax slowly and evenly. Stir occasionally to keep the temperature consistent across the pour.

    Add Fragrance at the Right Temperature

    Most fragrance oils bind best to wax at around 180°F to 185°F. Add fragrance too hot and it burns off. Add it too cool and it doesn't mix evenly. Follow the oil supplier's pour temperature for best results.

    Pour Slowly Into Each Cavity

    A fast pour traps air and leaves bubbles on the finished melt. Pour in a slow, steady stream. If the cavities are small, use a pouring pitcher with a thin spout for better control.

    Cool at Room Temperature First

    Moving hot wax straight to the fridge causes cracking and surface frost, especially with soy wax. Let the melts cool on the counter for 1 to 2 hours first, then move them to a cooler spot if you want to speed up the final set.

    Unmold When Fully Firm

How to Care for Your Wax Melt Molds

  • Wipe out any loose wax residue with a paper towel right after unmolding
  • Wash with warm water and mild dish soap, or put on the top rack of the dishwasher
  • For stubborn residue, pour warm (not boiling) water into the mold and let it sit a few minutes before rinsing
  • Don't use sharp tools or rough scrubbers since they cut the silicone and shorten mold life
  • Store flat or loosely rolled in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
  • Keep wax molds separate from food molds if you use strong fragrances since silicone can absorb scent over time
